Acceptable Reasons for Absence

You should try to go to school every day unless there is an unavoidable reason.

Unavoidable absences?

  • Illness – Ask your parent or carer to let the school know as soon as possible on the first day you're ill.
  • Medical Appointments – Ask your parent or carer to try to arrange these out of school hours. If this is not possible give your school advance warning.
  • Bereavements – If someone you are close to dies, ask your parent / carer to let the school know.
  • Exclusions – If you are excluded, either permanently or for a set number of days (up to 45) you must stay away from the school. If the exclusion is permanent, you should be offered alternative education.
  • Religious festivals – ask your parent / carer to ask the school in advance for time off for religious festivals.
